FRIENDS of Victoria Square, who maintain the Green Flag awarded parkland surrounding All Saints Church in Penarth will be holding their fuirst fundraising event of the year on Saturday, 2 May. 

A statement froim the Friends says: "A little later start this year to accommodate an early morning event in All Saints Church.

"Friends have been nurturing plants ready for the sale over the past few months and are also receiving donations from local businesses and the general public. Plans are also in the making for contributions of homemade cakes and savouries ready for the day.

Apart from the traditional offerings of plants and cakes, we will also be selling books from 50p, a raffle with tickets at £2 a strip (we already have donations of some amazing prizes) and after a hugely successful BBQ last year will be offering it again. Ideal to lunch on the Square with freshly cooked burgers and sausage rolls. Teas and coffees, as always, will also be available.  

"For those of you who have supported us in the past you will appreciate the range of products on offer, for those who haven't sampled our fare, come along you will not be disappointed. 

"This event is one of the most important fund-raising opportunities in the year for us to replenish plants, sow wildflower seeds, generally maintain the area and provide tools and equipment to do so.

"We have enjoyed initial funding from The National Lottery, Wales Government, Glamorganshire Voluntary Services and Vale Council and it is now our responsibility to maintain our beautiful space. 

"Every pound you spend helps us sustain maintenance of Victoria Square as a place to enjoy by the community and a place for wildlife to flourish."
