In a meeting with Penarth Town Council, Sgt Sam Johnson announced that 25 electric scooters have been seized in a drive to rid the town of the illegal two-wheelers.

"The officer who is leading the charge is highly experienced, and 25 of the scooters have been seized in the sector," said Sgt Johnson.

Town Mayor Mark Wilson praised the police for the achievement.

"Thank you for that. It was particularly bad in the summer. The scooters all seemed to come to Penarth then but the situation does seem a lot better now."

August saw a notable decline in crime, with 69 incidents being reported across the four wards compared to 104 in July.

Sgt Johnson was able to attribute the six troubling reports of stalking and harassment in St Augustine and Plymouth to a single person "with numerous mental health issues. It's not the same victim and it's harassment rather than stalking."

Upon being asked for an update on last week's anarchist graffiti campaign, Sgt Johnson said:

"We are building up intelligence on the incident. We believe it is the same person writing all the graffiti."

In August, 43 crimes were reported in St Augustine and Plymouth.

11 crimes were reported in Stanwell.

15 were reported in Cornerswell.
