£13,000 of Crack Cocaine and Heroin Discovered in Penarth

More than £13k of crack cocaine and heroin has been found in a car parked in Penarth.

The discovery in Victoria Square was made by police following the arrest of a man from Grangetown.

The 27-year-old was arrested by officers from the South Wales Police Cardiff policing team OpCrater who were on patrol in the town on Thursday afternoon.

James Allsopp, 27, has been charged with possession with intent to supply Class-A drugs and was remanded in custody to appear in court earlier today.

South Wales Police said: "Since OpCrater launched in April 2019 to tackle drug supply in Cardiff, the team has arrested more than 250 suspected drug dealers.

"As a result of these arrests, officers have seized:

  • More than £620k worth of drugs – predominantly heroin and crack cocaine.
  • In excess of £235k cash.

"And the proactive work has continued during lockdown.

"Our officers remain on the front line, responding to spontaneous incidents, detecting crime and serving communities.

"We can, and regularly do, act upon the information provided to us by the public, so please keep it coming."
