Penarth care home celebrates Chinese New Year with delicious banquet
MHA Ty Gwyn care home in Penarth celebrated Chinese New Year in style by delivering a homemade Chinese banquet to residents and staff.
A full three course taste experience was freshly made onsite by the hard-working kitchen team, with the home's community co-ordinator, Neil Chadwick, lending a hand with cooking and preparation.
Food on offer ranged from spring rolls right through to chow mein and sweet and sour dishes, followed by banana fritters with caramel sauce.
When lunchtime rolled around the aromas of a gorgeous Chinese banquet were filling the home with lots of comments on how nice it smelt. The residents were soon tucking into their food, with the staff sitting down to join in with them. Several residents were asking for seconds, if not thirds, of some dishes.
Staff at the home always like to join in with special menu days as they feel this adds to the dining experience.
Neil Chadwick, Community Co-ordinator at MHA Ty Gwyn, said:
"For Chinese New Year we always try and do something special for our residents, and this year I think we exceeded with that challenge.
"We started our preparations back in January when our chef, Radica, and myself sat down and planned out a banquet worthy of a Chinese Emperor.
"All the residents commented how nice the food was with one saying that they had never tried Chinese food before but loved it and had two helpings.
"I love hearing such lovely feedback from the residents and staff when we do culinary adventures such as this. Radica and myself have plenty more taste experiences planned for this year to tantalise the taste buds."
