The Friends fo Victoria Square have stopped accepting pumpkins after a "crazy" response to their Pumpkin After-Party.

The event was created to reduce Halloween waste by reusing pumpkins as a natural food source for wild animals, such as squirrels, birds and foxes.

Residents were asked to donate their leftover pumpkins at the Square before sunset Monday to Friday and by 3pm on Sun 7th, and place it at the signposted collection point near the Community Garden.

As of last night, the Friends posted that they could no longer accept any more pumpkins, after receiving more than 150.

"Thank you all so much for your donations, the response has been amazing!" they said.

"To ensure we continue to manage and monitor this project efficiently, we are not taking any more donations as of tonight and kindly ask you to use your pumpkins to feed the wildlife in your gardens, or dispose of them at home.

"Halting the donations will ensure our volunteers have the necessary time to sort out, distribute and manage the donations we have already received.

"Keep your eyes peeled for a post coming tomorrow of how to best utilise your pumpkins at home, including a video on how to create a pumpkin hanger!"
