A CAPACITY crowd of 1,400 is expected to flock to Penarth Lawn Tennis club for what promises to be the town's biggest party of the year.

The club's annual Music and Food Festival on Saturday, 23 May (gates open 12.30) will feature seven bands, seven food vendors and a revamped Kidzone.

And, for the first time, festival goers who don't want to sit on the grass can by Premium Tickets to enjoy the event from the comfort of the clubhouse.

"We've pulled out all the stops to make this the best festival yet," said organiser Al Cozens.

"It's always a great day for the community to come together and enjoy some music and dancing. We hope the extras we've laid on this year will make it really special."

The club's bars will be open selling drinks including its newly minted lager "Racket Fuel", and a range of specially formulated cocktails like the "Tropical Ace" and the "Court-Side-Mule".

The popular Pimms bar will return, raising funds for Wales Air Ambulance Wales and Multiple Sclerosis UK.

The Kidzone – introduced last year – gives children a dedicated area where they can play short tennis, five-a-side football or chill in their own covered area.

Bands range from an acoustic busker for early arrivals and jazz from the Harmonic Miners.

They are followed by dance-floor-fillers Skalet, funk and soul band Supernatural, and the festival is headlined by party band Covered.

Penarth favourites The Woods will also take to the stage, alongside debutants the Jack Leads Experiment.

Music organiser Al Morgan said: "We've got a brilliant and really varied lineup this year. We hope to put everyone in a party mood and to fill the dancefloor once again."

There's an international selection of foods vendors – including regulars The Bearded Taco selling Mexican meals while Keralan Karavan will be back with their Indian delights.

There will also be hamburgers, pizzas, toasted sandwiches and desserts.

Club chairman Martin Radford said: "It's hard to believe that the festival is now nine years old and that it has developed into such a central part of the social life of Penarth.

"Our volunteers do an amazing job of delivering the festival every year - and it just seems to get better every time."

"Tickets sell out quickly every year. We expect this year will be the same as we have held prices from last year."
