The colour Room tells the remarkable true story of a trailblazing young woman whose bold vision transformed the world of ceramics. In the industrial Midlands of the 1920s, Clarice (Phoebe Dynevor) refuses to be confined by the expectations of her class, gender, or circumstance. Restless and fiercely ambitious, she moves from one pottery factory to another, chasing opportunities while supporting her widowed mother Ann (Kerry Fox) and younger sister Dot (Darci Shaw).
With a mind bursting with daring ideas for colors, shapes, and patterns, Clarice takes risks that could see her family in the workhouse. But her talent soon catches the eye of eccentric factory owner Colley Shorter (Matthew Goode) and earns her an apprenticeship with the respected Art Designer Fred Ridgeway (David Morrissey). Against the odds, Clarice rises through the ranks of a male-dominated industry, drawing strength from the camaraderie of the women on the factory floor and her unshakable determination.
Her crowning achievement, the revolutionary Art Deco "Bizarre" range, not only rescues the factory during the depths of the Great Depression but also secures her legacy as one of the most iconic and influential designers of the 20th century. Vivid, inspiring, and brimming with heart, The Colour Room celebrates the unstoppable spirit of a working-class woman who dared to color outside the lines—and changed design forever.
