Penarth's wackiest event of the year is officially open for entries.
The Downhill Derby, now in its 10th Year, will kick start the 2020 summer festival weekend taking place on the 11th and 12th of July at Penarth's seafront.

Gwyrddio Penarth Greening (GPG), Penarth's local environmental group, celebrated their 10th anniversary with a public debate about climate change from a local perspective.
The discussion was held in St Augustine's church hall and the event saw a significant turnout from local residents with many struggling to get a seat in the packed space.

The amount that people in Penarth, and more widely across the Vale of Glamorgan, could pay to their fire and rescue service is set to go up by more than 4% next year.
A report to go before South Wales Fire and Rescue Authority members suggests increasing the contribution from the 10 council areas by 4.25% so that the total budget is just under £75m for 2020-21.

The Old Penarthians RFC recently presented a cheque for £1,000 to the Better Life Appeal based at University Hospital Llandough to help purchase equipment for the All Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre.
Cystic fibrosis is the U.K.'s most common inherited life-threatening disease.
There will be a road closure in place all day today and tomorrow for BBC filming to take place in Penarth.
Forrest Road in Penarth will be closed from 05/02/20 - 06/02/20.
A local husband and wife duo are holding an Ultra Marathon that runs from Porthcawl to their hometown in Penarth.
The Vale of Glamorgan Ultra Marathon (VOGUM) is run by Pegasus Ultra Marathon and consists of a 40-mile challenge along the Wales Coast Path.
The Learning Tree Day Nursery, which provides childcare for Penarth pupils around the town, celebrates its one-year anniversary this week.
The nursery that opened in February 2019 has doubled its number of children, seen an increase in revenue and made six staff appointments after its first successful year of business.

Twenty-Seven playparks in the Vale, including those in Penarth, will benefit from additional grass cutting during the winter, thanks to a Community Benefits Agreement with the Vale of Glamorgan Council's grass-cutting contractors.
Countrywide Grounds Maintenance currently undertake the Council's amenity grass-cutting.
