Work has begun on a new multi-use games area at King George V Playing Fields in Llandough following an £85,000 investment.
The facility, which will be suitable for a range of activities, including football, basketball and other sports, is due for completion in around four weeks.
Funding came from the Vale Council's Strong Communities Grant Fund (£45,000), Section 106 contributions from nearby developments (£20,000) and a £20,000 Place for Sport grant from Sports Wales.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council and Llandough community Council have worked in partnership on the project.
Such redevelopment is part of a widespread programme of work to improve play areas across the County.
Facilities at the Grange play area in Wenvoe and the Murch in Dinas Powys are among those to be upgraded over the next couple of months.
Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said: "We're aware that a number of young people living in Llandough have requested improvements to sports facilities, so we're delighted to help deliver this multi-use games area.
"This project will provide an all-weather surface suitable for a range of activities and is part of a substantial programme of work to upgrade play areas across the Vale."
Chairman of the MUGA Working Party, Community Councillor Dr Mo Misra said: "We are extremely grateful for the support we have had from the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Sport Wales, which will enable us to build this superb facility for the village.
''We are confident that the youngsters of Llandough will appreciate and enjoy this impressive facility for years to come."
