Independent traders in Penarth are encouraging residents to shop local this Christmas with the launch of a festive "Tenner Trail".

Following the success of last month's Fiver Fest campaign, the Penarth Business Group has announced a new Christmas shopping initiative designed to highlight the diversity and value of what our high street has to offer.

The Tenner Trail - which runs from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November – will see 51 independent cafes, shops and businesses put on special £10 offers for customers over the weekend-long celebration.

And this is just the start of the town's festive plans!

Christmas music will play across Penarth over the weekend and shoppers also have the opportunity to win a very special hamper by taking part in a Christmas Window Treasure Trail.

Without the support of local residents and visitors to Penarth, many independent businesses would not have survived such a difficult year.

Not only is the Tenner Trail a way to highlight the independent shops and businesses that make our town and high street unique - whilst also giving shoppers the chance to pick up some fabulous unique gifts, food and drink - it is also a way for traders to say thank you for that vital support.

Hamptons, the Ludlow Lane gift shop, is among the participating local businesses.

"The Tenner Trail is a great way for Penarth's independent traders to thank our much valued customers with some terrific £10 offers," Hamptons' Lucy Atkinson tells Nub news.

"It also helps us traders highlight how £10 spent locally can be worth much more - because the money stays in our community to be spent again and again.

"With such a wide variety of offers there's bound to be something to tempt you.

"So don't be shy - make sure you pick up some great bargains on 27th and 28th November."

Twenty-eight independent businesses are taking part in the Christmas Window Treasure Trail which will see three lucky winners win a hamper filled with goodies from the participating businesses.

Get in the festive mood, as you explore the town to work out the Christmas riddle, film or festive tune displayed in the shop's windows.

You have until Saturday 19 December to enter the competition.

"So people will either dress up their windows in a Christmas film for people to guess what it is," organiser Angelina Hall tells Nub News.

"We've also teamed up with Cantemus Choir, so there will be a QR code in some windows for people to scan and then a carol plays and people have to guess the carol.

"And we've also got a tie-up with the escape rooms in Cardiff and they've designed some puzzles for us. If you're able to fill in all the blanks then you get entered into the draw for one of the hampers on offer. It's been really collaborative.

"The competition isn't meant to be onerous. It's just a bit of fun to get everyone in that Christmassy mood."

A specially designed Tenner Trail Christmas card has been designed by Candid Wales and features a vintage snowy scene of Penarth by local artist Andrew Coslett.

The card also includes a town map and list of traders participating in the Tenner Trail and Christmas Window Treasure Hunt.

It is being posted through the doors of homes across Penarth and will be available at many of the participating businesses.

"Tenner Trail is essentially a thank you from all the traders to residents for helping us out during the tough year we've all experienced," says Angelina.

The Tenner Trail and Christmas Window Treasure Hunt have been organised by the Penarth Business Group with the support of Penarth Town Council.
