With less than a week until cafés, pubs and restaurants can reopen to serve customers outside, venues around Penarth are preparing for the big day.

In November, hospitality businesses were allowed to operate with limits on how many people could dine as a group, curfews and then alcohol sales.

We spoke to local businesses to find out how they feel about the upcoming changes.

Willmore's 1938 co-owner Matt Holland said the team had been busy preparing the outside seating area.

"We're also getting the staff back in and briefed on the new COVID rules in regards to tables and service," he said.

"Not a huge amount has changed but it's obviously something we'll have to manage."

With space in the trial parklet area, Willmore's will have a maximum 44 covers at one time.

"Without the parklets it would be almost impossible to operate," said Matt.

"So, we're very lucky to have that and we appreciate it from the council.

"We used it through last summer and it made a huge, huge difference to our business."

Caitlyn at Foxy's Deli said: "We're very excited to open up with our new outdoor seating area and we're getting everything ready to go.

"We've got about nine tables, which can be booked via our online system. The new seating area gives us more space than we've had before.

"We've had a lot of people make reservations already. We're also partnering with the Gin Bar next door to have an opening event," she said.

At Pickford's Galley and Bar, outdoor space has been recently renovated, owner Huw Pickford told Nub News.

"We're making the most of the outdoor space with new decking. It's crucial and we want to maximise it," said Huw.

"We want to serve as many people as possible while obviously maintaining social distancing.

"We've just got to hope that the weather holds!"
