The owners of Willmore's 1938 were disgusted to discover that the Washington Buildings had been targeted by vandals on Saturday night.

A large pink and yellow "HAL" symbol appeared above the cafe alongside a smaller "KAe" sprayed in black paint.

The "HAL" insignia has appeared elsewhere in Penarth, including in the alleyway between Stanwell Road and the station.

Matt Holland and Charlotte Court say they are "sick of this sort of thing".

Just two weeks ago they commissioned a local artist to cover up previous graffiti with a mural.

"To say we are upset is an understatement," said Matt. "Charlotte was crying yesterday."

"We're obviously worried about the roof - it's a 100-year-old building - but we're more worried about the kids that are doing it because they'll end up killing themselves."

Matt has told Nub News that a family member of the person who is allegedly responsible for the smaller graffiti has reached out anonymously and offered to paint over it.

Matt and Charlotte say they are not considering sending anyone to clear it up without proper scaffolding and health and safety equipment.

The couple have contacted the police but are not hopeful they will be able to find the perpetrator due to a lack of CCTV.
