Voter Turnout Falls for Cardiff South and Penarth as Labour Maintain Seat

Voter turnout in the Vale of Glamorgan fell in the general election that took place yesterday in comparison to that of 2007.
Out of those who were registered to vote in the constituency, 64.2% turned out to vote in 2019, which fell from the 66.4% turnout in the previous general election.
Meanwhile, Stephen Doughty maintained his majority in the area, despite losing 5.4% of votes from 2017.
He has since thanked voters for their support. In a statement on social media he said: ''Hugely honoured to be re-elected to serve the amazing people of Cardiff South and Penarth - thank you to all who supported me and especially to my incredible Welsh Labour campaign team. Diolch yn fawr iawn.''
The Conservatives vote share fell by 1.2% decreasing their vote share to 29%.

The Conservative party won a significant majority in last night's general election overall in the UK.
Despite Labour maintaining an overall majority in Wales, many candidates saw swings towards opposition parties in their majorities.
