A Penarth restaurant with rooms has picked up a coveted award for its accommodation.

James Sommerin, a Michelin Star restaurant on The Esplanade, has long provided excellent service and delectable food to the people of Penarth.

Now it has been given a 2019 Gold Award for accommodation from Visit Wales.

The honour is bestowed upon businesses who offer ''the highest standards of quality, exceptional comfort and hospitality'' and only 129 businesses made it onto the list.

Celebrating his massive achievement, James Sommerin said: ''I'm over the moon to receive this award, it's a testament to the hard work and dedication of the whole team.''

The restaurant was created by James and his wife Louise in an area known for its breathtaking views and relaxed setting. It has picked up many awards since opening in 2014.

These include a Michelin star in 2016, AA Restaurant of the Year – Wales 2016-2017, 4 AA rosettes, Restaurant of the Year for Food Awards Wales in 2016 and 2018 and Number 34 in the Good Food Guide for 2017.

Lord Elis-Thomas, Wales' Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, presented the award. He said: ''Being recognised as one of the Gold Award Hotels shows the commitment of these businesses to quality, delivering first class experience and going over and above our visitors' expectations.''
