Vale to consider future proposals for Penarth's Kymin

By Alex Jones 15th Sep 2020

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is set to consider proposals for the future of Penarth's Kymin.

Overlooking the pier, the house and its gardens - once a popular wedding and events venue - had been let to Penarth Town Council before returning to Vale Council control in April.

Now the Authority must decide what's next for the popular building, with one option to make it and some grounds available for long-term lease.

In the coming months, the Council will invite approaches from those interested in managing the location.

Under the plans being considered by Cabinet, a significant proportion of space would be retained for public use.

There will also be discussions with community groups about involving them in the upkeep of the grounds.

Once an advertising process has concluded, the Council will identify a preferred bidder and undertake further public consultation.

Cllr Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: "The Kymin is one of Penarth's most well well-known buildings. The options we are considering represent a fantastic opportunity to reinvigorate it for the benefit of the local and wider community.

"This is a chance to write the next chapter in this venue's history.

"I am also very pleased that our plans will continue to provide public access to much of the grounds as I know this is a valued local amenity in the area."
