Vale Farmers' Market held its first event in Dinas Powys today.

With an emphasis on fresh, local produce, stallholders opened at 9am this morning to sell their wares.

Many residents had been looking forward to the first market, after plans to initially launch in August fell through.

Janine Gray, of Daisy Graze, has organised the new market in the village.

"As management at the Star Inn changed hands, we had to start the process all over again," she explained.

"But it's been a fantastic morning. We sold out of bread in less than an hour, it's been great so far."

The outdoor market uses a one-way system to ensure everyone can make their way around the stalls.

A steady stream of people was arriving to browse the stalls and shop.

Stallholders included Elwyn's Produce, Drwytho olives, oils and vinegars, Bossa Nova Chocolates, Harrison Teas, Awesome.Wales, Cocohut Curry Company, Ty Sirol Pork, Double Trouble Coffee, The Artisan Baker, The Potted Garden and Say Cheesecake.

Natalie Jones, of SayCheesecake, told Nub News she sold out in 25 minutes.

"I had to run home and get some more," she said.

"We're going away this weekend, so with stock like this I'd prefer to sell out.

"I'm glad to have this Dinas Powys market now. With a new market I didn't know what to expect, but next week I'll be making double!"

The market will be held every Friday from 9am-12pm in the Star Inn car park.
