A residential tutor centre for English and Mathematics could be heading to Penarth if it is approved by the council.

The proposed business would be a Kip McGrath tuition centre located on Herbert Terrace in Penarth.

Kip McGrath is a franchise tutor company with qualified teachers in over 560 tutoring centres across 20 countries.

The centre would be open from 3-7pm after school every afternoon and from 9-1pm on a Saturday morning.

The planning application outlines the details of the business. It states that: ''Primary and secondary pupils can have extra tuition in Mathematics and English.

''The pupils will follow an individual programme of Mathematics/English where areas of weakness are identified.

According to the plans there will be no building work and so the character of the site will remain unchanged.

The tutor centre will be in Penarth town. The application states: ''The site is well located in terms of proximity to local shops, services and community facilities given its location in Penarth town centre.

"It is envisaged that many pupils will walk to the centre from their school for after school tuition.''

''The site is accessible by all forms of transport including foot, cycle and public transport.

''The site is located close to Penarth railway halt, and the town centre. The site is therefore

located in very close proximity to a wide variety of shops, schools, services and facilities.''

''There is short term parking available in Herbert Terrace, Stanwell road and Hickman road

for parents dropping off their child.''

The centre will also mean that the home that is currently vacant will return to a used property.

The application has already been approved twice before for different buildings.

These two premises were structurally unsuitable so the Tuition centre could not set up in those buildings.

A decision will be made over the application by the council over the centre.
