The BBC One consumer show X-Ray has recognised Bike Shop Penarth for its customer service and dedication.

Presented by Lucy Owen, the programme last month introduced a new segment called 'Shout-Out of the Week', which urges viewers to submit a selfie video nominating a local trader for recognition.

On 17 May, Bike Shop Penarth became the first business to feature.

They were nominated by resident Chris Webster, who said:

"They always go the extra mile to make sure you get what you need from there and that was especially true during lockdown.

"Karey and the team were working seven days a week to make sure you can get bikes and parts."

The Bike Shop Penarth is among Penarth's best-loved businesses.

Besides frequently repairing bikes free of charge and sourcing highly elusive parts, the business was recently praised for offering a free kid's bike to a COVID-hit family.

Karey Sharp, the shop's owner, also once donated a kid's bicycle to a refugee camp in Dunkirk.

Responding to the X-Ray accolade, Karey said:

"Our team at The Bike Shop on Glebe Street are proud to be recognised for being an integral part of the Penarth community.

"Being here to do our best to help as cycling becomes more of a part of all of our lives is very rewarding. We were all so surprised and honoured to find out that the show highlighted our efforts."
