A planning application to turn the former Royal British Legion Club into a tattoo parlour in Penarth has been approved by the Vale of Glamorgan council.

The application outlines changing the use of the first floor from office space to a tattoo parlour.

Situated at Station Approach, the setting is in the retail centre for Penarth and is right next to one of the town's three train stations.

Penarth Town Council and the Vale Council were consulted on the plans but had no comments or objections to the proposals.

As the proposal would not result in any changes to any part of the building's exterior, the development proposal would have an acceptable effect on the character and appearance of the building, the streetscape and the conservation area.

The applicant also submitted a management plan that specified opening hours (10 a.m. till 6 p.m, Monday to

Saturday) and indicated that the management would operate an appointment-only system, controlling access with a buzzer-controlled entrance.

The application states: ''The tattoo parlour will ensure employment opportunities within the locality and will further contribute to the viability and vitality of this area of Penarth's retail centre.

''Tattoo work is highly skilled with the industry robustly regulated, proposals will contribute to the amenity of the area whilst ensuring no adverse impacts in terms of noise, traffic congestion and parking.''

It is not yet clear which tattoo parlour is looking to move onto the site but the applicant had already passed a planning application to turn the ground floor and basement of the building into office space, which was approved in 2019.

The second floor is also in use as an office space.

Due to current circumstances, it is unclear when this application will go ahead but with the approval, they are one step closer.
