Flood victims in Taffs Wells received a swathe of donations from Sully residents after community councillor Kay Francis Bowring organised for items to be collected locally.

Ms Bowring appealed to Sully residents to give anything they didn't need to families who have been affected by the flooding from Storm Dennis.

It all started with a Facebook post to locals asking for items they could part with such as bedding, towels, cleaning products, kettles.

She then arranged for a van to take these items to the donation centre in Taffs Well.

The response from the community was overwhelming and the community councillor updated residents after their drop-off today.

She said: ''I am delighted to say that your generosity and kindness was very well received when we delivered the items you so kindly donated were delivered to Taffs Well today.

''The Community Hall and many residents are very well organised and donations are going well.

''I met one lady in particular who we offered a lift home to her cottage in Nantgarw.

''She had basically lost everything. I went into her home to help with some of the items that Sully people had donated and was completely overwhelmed by the damage and destruction that the flood had caused.

''The smell and filth were beyond my imagination. However, this lady was very stoic in the face of adversity and I so admired her tenacity in dealing with such a devastating situation.

''The collection centre no longer requires bedding, toys or clothes, though wellingtons, boots and waterproof coats would still be welcome.

''The main things needed are still cleaning products, small kitchen appliances and food (cans, packets pasta, biscuits etc).

''Many homes are still without electricity. I will make another visit next week.

''I would like to thank Derek Richards in particular for helping us with making his van available all morning for delivering the items. Thank you, everyone.''

Donations can be given to Councillor Bowring at 34 South Road in Sully.
