Station Approach traders come together to spread Christmas sparkle

By Alex Jones 19th Nov 2020

Seventeen Station Approach traders have hung fairy-lit awnings above their doors to spread Christmas cheer at the end of a difficult year.

In a spirit of collaboration that has come to epitomise our high street, the traders applied for a £1000 grant from the Vale of Glamorgan Council to fund the project.

Lilly Pad Florists then set about designing a set of decorative nests, complete with baubles and bulbs, to spruce up an area that has since 2018 not received Christmas decorations from Penarth Town Council.

Each trader also contributed £60 plus a donation to cover additional costs.

Angelina Hall, Chair of Penarth Business Group and owner of Glass By Design, explained the project to Nub News:

"We heard in September that there wouldn't be any Penarth Town Council Christmas decorations in this part of Penarth, and we just thought: 'It's such a tough trading time at the moment, but we all want Station Approach to look lovely.'

"It's so important to have lights on and a bit of festivity at the moment - pretending things are normal even though they're not."
