Ty Gwyn care home in Penarth welcomed members from the 1st Penarth Scout Group to help set up a sensory garden ready for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Squirrel Scouts, Beaver Scouts, and a few Cub Scouts along with several leaders and parents visited the home on Sunday, May 22 to help plant hanging baskets, window boxes, and paint a few benches.

The Squirrels Scouts gifted wind chimes that they had made for the residents to put into the newly renovated garden spaces.

The visit was also part of a badge the Squirrel Scouts were working towards, which was looking at local 'superheroes'. Members got to learn about what a care home does for the local community.

Neil Chadwick, the community coordinator at Ty Gwyn, was contacted by the Squirrels Scouts leader and visited one of their meetings to talk about the home and the care received by residents.

Mr Chadwick said: "It is lovely to get strong community links built up again after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The link we have established with the 1st Penarth Scout Group will open up lots of opportunities for our residents to get involved in intergenerational activities with the youth members and potentially pass on some of their life skills to the younger generation."

He added: "On behalf of the home management, residents and staff, I would like to pass a massive thank you to all those who came on Sunday to help with our gardens, and I look forward to welcoming them to the home again soon."
