Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern Group have issued a statement on volunteering during the coronavirus crisis after they received a surge of participants offering their support to the community.

They said: ''It is encouraging that so many people have offered their services to help local residents who are in isolation during the Covid-19 crisis, and we would encourage all to help their families and close friends through these difficult times.

''Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern's two coordinators have enlisted a team of more than 40 volunteers who wish to help the vulnerable and elderly, and others who may need help and support during these difficult times.

''This local charity has had more than 45 years experience of supporting the community of Dinas Powys.''

Councillor John Fanshaw chair of the charity said, "If you wish to volunteer to help others, particularly those you do not know very well, you are welcome to do so through well-established charities, such as Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern.

''We are a registered charity with a long and well-established record of experience, safeguarding, confidentiality for the benefit of both volunteers and those we help.''
