A PENARTH councillor is calling on new Welsh leader Vaughan Gething to make a difference, but he is not confident.

Senedd Vaughan Gething has been elected the head of Welsh Labour and will be confirmed as first minister next week.

However, Conservative Penarth councillor Rhys Thomas, who represents Plymouth ward, says: "Vaughan Gething has represented Penarth in the Senedd since 2011, and we have very little to show for it.

"Thanks to the Drakeford-Gething Welsh Government, Penarth has a desperate shortage of GPs and our schoolchildren are the worst funded in Wales.

"I sincerely hope he can turn things around and deliver for the people who put him in the Senedd."
