Public access defibrillator installed outside All Saints Church in Penarth
A public access defibrillator is now available for use outside All Saints Church Lesser Hall on Victoria Square following advice from a member of the community.
The installation comes after someone suggested the idea to the vicar late last year.
Dafydd Jones, 71, a volunteer and former administrator at All Saints Church, said: "I was asked to take on the project and I contacted Calon Hearts. Through them, we were able to receive a grant as well as a couple of donations from church members which allowed us to purchase the defibrillator and the cabinet."
The defibrillator is now registered for everyone to use when needed. "Before using it, people will have to call 999 and the person on the other end will give a code for the cabinet to open and talks you through exactly what you need to do," said Dafydd.
The cabinet was fitted during Christmas last year and the defibrillator was installed and registered last week.
Two 30-minute training sessions on how to use public access defibrillators will take place on March 15 at 18:30 at All Saints Church Lesser Hall and training will be delivered by Calon Hearts.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Email your interest to [email protected] or call 029 2070 3170.
