Many complaints have been lodged about the manner in which Vale of Glamorgan Council has slashed trees along Cardiff Road Dinad Powys leading to Barry.

Plaid Cymru Councillors challenged the Vale about the situation.

Cllr Chris Franks said, "This is what we have been told. The road was closed to allow work to maintain the road gullies and connecting pipes to the stream.

"This was necessary to reduce flooding and the risk of car drivers losing control. Also the open 'grips' or channels have been cleared of any obstructions. So the tree maintenance section took advantage of the road closure.

"This important maintenance work has been outstanding for a number of years.

"The flail method is brutal but the Vale Council states that it is the cheapest on offer.

"Hopefully new growth will soon cover up the sight!

"We have asked if there really is not a better way to carry out this work."
