Some Penarth roads will be closed for several hours on the morning of Sunday, March 27 to make way for the Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon.

Penarth Road, Llandough Hill, Cogan Spur, Barry Road, Windsor Road (Cogan Hill), Marconi Avenue, Terra Nova Way, Penarth Portway and Paget Road will all be closed from 09.00.

But people who live on Marconi Avenue, Terra Nova Way, Penarth Portway and Paget Road will be allowed access up until 09:45.

The road closures have been met with mixed reactions from residents, particularly with the marathon scheduled on the same day as Mother's Day.

June Hurley, who lives in the Penarth Marina & Haven area, told Nub News: "Well, what a silly day to have it on as it's Mother's Day. A lot of mums lost out on visiting family because of lockdown and again, mums will miss out due to the road closures."

Sha Jones, a resident of Cogan, added: "Why it [the marathon] must run through the Marina amazes me! So, no shopping at Tesco and no treating the family to a Mother's Day meal out. Yet again, the businesses will suffer!"

More than 15,000 people are expected to take part this year and this will be the first half marathon event since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All local roads will re-open at 12:00.
