A popular pub in Penarth is due to be knocked down and replaced with four storeys of flats.

The Station, on Windsor Road in Cogan, closed in summer last year and Brains sold the site.

Developers are now planning to demolish the building and build 20 apartments there.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has received a planning application from Top House Developments for planning permission for the project last month.

The building would likely have a cafe on the ground floor, while all the apartments would be classed as 'affordable'.

"It's Top House Developments' intention to provide a high quality residential development, which respects the local character of the area, and integrates well with the wider streetscene, while also creating an attractive retail frontage at the ground floor of the building," write the developers in the application.

"The building that is currently on site is vacant, and has been for some time; therefore the site has great potential for a residential development.''

A decision has not yet been made on the application.
