Penarth's Neighbourhood Policing Team have issued advice to parents following a night of disruption, underage drinking and anti-social behaviour on Saturday (14 November).

This comes as part of a South Wales Police "operation" that aims to avoid a repeat of the weekend's disorder.

Fireworks were thrown and a police officer was assaulted, leading to three youths being arrested for "various offences.

Nub News yesterday reported that additional officers will be on patrol this weekend and that a CCTV van will be "used as a deterrent".

British Transport Police have been called to support the operation as it is believed some of those involved "travelled into Penarth by train".

In a letter sent to parents and carers at Stanwell School, the police implored parents to take action against unruly teens.

It read:

Due to the high amount of anti-social behaviour (large groups of teenagers drinking) in the Penarth area last weekend, we would like to remind parents the following:

- Even though they are in a year group bubble, under current Welsh Government legislation when your children are not in school, they cannot be in a group of more than 4 and social distancing must be maintained.

- Parents have a responsibility to ensure their children (under 18) are complying with COVID regulations.

- If your child is found to be breaching covid guidelines, officers will always aim to educate both the child and the parents in the first instance. However, if there are children found to be persistently breaching the guidelines, parents can be fined £60 for a child.
