The summer holidays are here – are you jetting off or staying in the UK?

Though the thought of a trip abroad is tempting, it may not be possible for everyone, given the current circumstances.

But that doesn't mean there's no fun to be had at home, so we've decided to explore the best attractions Penarth has to offer.

These are the top five things to do in our town, according to TripAdvisor reviewers.

Cosmeston Country Park

The perfect spot for a pleasant walk and a picnic if the weather is on your side, there's beautiful views and nature to enjoy at Cosmeston.

For younger children, the new fantasy playpark has been a hit so far, and the Medieval Village is also well worth a visit.

Penarth Pier

Every Penarthian has visited the pier, but that doesn't mean it's not worth another visit to appreciate the seaside sights and beautiful Art Deco design.

It's steeped in history, and for many brings back childhood memories. It's a simple pleasure, but you can't beat enjoying a 99 as you stroll along the Esplanade.

Alexandra Park

One of our town's finest beauty spots, Alexandra Park is popular with TripAdvisor reviewers. "Serene" and "peaceful" are often used in praise of the park. It's another place to get outdoors and enjoy what nature has to offer in Penarth.

Turner House Gallery

The Turner House Gallery celebrates local talent alongside the greats of the art-world. It's free to enter and there is no need to pre-book, though numbers are limited to ensure safety.

Henri Matisse's 'Drawing With Scissors' is the current exhibit, with work exploring Wales' myths and culture coming from September.

Lavernock Point [.L]

Take a beautiful walk with stunning clifftop views and see Penarth from a new perspective by walking from Cliff Top Park to Lavernock Point.

It's worth taking note of the wildlife at this spot; the limestone grassland supports a fine nature reserve with varied and colourful plants.
