Pickford's Penarth are Litter Picking to Keep the Waste at Bay

The Pickford's Galley and Bar has ensured that after every shift they go litter picking along the Esplanade outside of their restaurant.

They have made it a part of their close down routine for every day they open in the hope of reducing the effect of more people visiting Penarth's seafront.

The eatery already provides three bins for their customers to use but when they discovered litter further afield they wanted to take action.

Over the weekend they said: ''Litter duty done again this evening, shame the heavens opened whilst I was out. Also, such a shame to see the amount of rubbish being thrown on the streets. If the bins are full please take your rubbish home with you, I can't pick it all up."

They have now taken steps to ensure they can continue doing this and after an appeal to local residents, they were provided with a litter picker to use as they said: ''Some of the things I pick up even gloves are not enough.''

Many local residents have expressed their annoyance with the overflowing bins, littering and general waste since the coronavirus lockdown.

Our picture gallery shows some images that have been sent into us over the lockdown period by residents who have picked up or encountered litter on their walks.

The Pickford's had not been open long before the coronavirus hit the UK and we went into lockdown.

They have been coming up with a variety of innovative approaches to keep going despite the difficult circumstance including their very popular takeaway service.
