Penarth's Brynawel Garden Centre, on Sully Road, will reopen next week after Mark Drakeford announced the easing of a small number of lockdown restrictions.

Today, at 12:30 pm, Wales' First Minister announced a further three weeks of lockdown but with a few measures to relax restrictions slightly.

Penarth Nub News got in touch with Brynawel Garden Centre as soon as the announcement was made to check whether they would be reopening.

They said: ''We have been waiting for that announcement although we didn't know he had made it yet.

''We have been preparing to reopen on Monday in the hopes that they would let garden centres get back to business.

''Just like any shop or supermarket, we have got social distance markers and a queuing system in place outside the centre to make sure customers and staff can safely shop.

''When we heard that B and Q were doing so we thought it was only fair that centres were allowed to reopen too. I have spoken to our local MP about it and I am very glad they have made that decision.''

A lot of Penarthians have been out in their gardens during the lockdown with the sunny weather set to continue over the bank holiday weekend.

They will now be able to purchase plants, seeds and other gardening essentials come Monday.

Brynawel is also offering a delivery service to those who wish to spend over £30 with free delivery to Dinas Powys, Penarth, Llandough and Sully or a five-pound fee for further afield.

Mark Drakeford also said that lockdown measures will continue for another 3 weeks before they will be reviewed again.

Other changes announced:

• Members of the public are allowed to exercise more than once a day come Monday.

• Local councils can look at plans to reopen libraries and recycling centres.
