Penarth Growing Community are giving away a packet of native wildflower seeds and a sticker, thanks to funding from Penarth Town Council, to everyone who joins the new Growing Together Network.

Their aim was to get 100 people to sign-up in the first year but have been delighted by the response, reaching 100 within the first two months.

Sally Hughes and Eurgain Powell, who lead the group, were able to present Tom Quinn with his wildflower seeds and sticker this weekend, at Benthyg Penarth, Penarth's new Library of Things, which has just opened up in Rowley's Jewellers on Glebe Street.

Sally said, "We've been really delighted by the response we've had to Growing Together.

"People have really appreciated spending time outdoors in nature over the last year and there's been a huge interest in people wanting to grow their own fruit and veg as well as supporting nature to thrive in their own gardens."

Tom said, "I love growing my own veg because it's a chance to try out things you don't find on the supermarket shelves – last year we tried growing unusual shaped squash, like bright yellow crookneck squash and patty-pan squash.

"We also try to make our garden a welcoming place for wildlife by growing pollinator-friendly flowers like borage and avoiding chemicals. It's great to have this network of gardeners and gardens in Penarth to share ideas and plants through things like the seed swap."

Penarth Growing Community launched "Growing Together ~ Tyfu Gyda'n Gilydd" last month, to build a Network of spaces for growing and wildlife in gardens across Penarth.

By joining the Network people will get information and ideas, support and advice, on what they can do in their own gardens. They have also been organising very popular seed and plant swaps each weekend at 10 different locations across Penarth.
