Penarth pupils showed their support for the climate strike in Cardiff city centre and outside the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.

On Friday, thousands of children in Wales took part in a global strike ahead of the UN Climate Action Summit.

Children, across the country, missed a day of school to make their voices heard in the global strike action.

The march in Cardiff was one of more than 200 in the UK.

The protestors demanded urgent and radical action from the Welsh Government to solve the environmental crisis.

In April of this year, the Welsh Government declared a climate emergency but the protestors involved in Friday's march want more than that.

Anthony Slaughter, the leader of the Green Party in Wales and a fellow Penarthian, took part in the march.

He said, ''the massive turnout for today's climate strike march in Cardiff showed the strength of feeling from all sections of our community on the ongoing climate crisis and the impacts already being felt across the world.

''While people of all ages were present, this was a day when young voices were prominent with speaker after speaker articulating their generation's anger at government inertia.

''This was a day for politicians to listen and take real, meaningful action to tackle the climate emergency.

''Business as usual is no longer an option.''

Stephen Doughty, the MP for Cardiff South and Penarth, was at the event outside the Senedd to show his support for the cause.

He said, ''I've met a number of young people from Evenlode, from Albert school in Penarth and from Stanwell - talking to them about why climate change is an emergency, why we have to act now and why young people are leading the way on this.

''And I have to say some of the speeches here, some of the enthusiasm and some of the expertise on show is absolutely remarkable.

''These young people are doing us proud, we should all be standing together supporting them.''
