Stol is - Quality coffee shared with the community. Peter, the creator of the company, spoke to Nub News about his new cargo bike venture and how he hopes that it will embrace and enhance connections and meaningful conversation in and around Penarth.

He delivers filter coffee and vegan cookies from a blue box container attached to his yellow bike to Penarth residents.

The logo (pictured above) which is brandished across his products goes a long way in describing the why behind his business.

He explained: "The coffee is picked as fruit. Buyers then chat to suppliers, before it is transported and arrives in your hands. You then sit and enjoy that moment because coffee brings us joy. But it's more than that when we share it with the people who are close to our hearts. This is the circular, ongoing, process that is captured in the Stol logo."

Yellow depicts the vibrancy of the business and blue depicts the sense of relaxation it brings too.

Peter then spoke about his journey to this point. He said: "I worked next to the train station for a long time which was a wonderful experience to connect and get to know the local community.

"I've lived here for over 2 years now after moving out of Cardiff. Originally, I am from Poland.

"It is a very different experience in this area from where I was born. Talking to strangers was not a thing in Poland. You did not communicate in a casual, chatty way.

"Penarth has a wonderful reputation for community and I wanted to know if that was real. I wanted to work together with the people here and build stronger relationships.

"It was my first day doing this on Sunday and I thought I knew a lot about Penarth but now I realise I'm reconnecting in a really meaningful way.

"This is just the start. I hope the idea takes off and I can grow from there."

Already Peter has reaped the benefits of cycling around the town and talking to local residents.

He told us a story about his first day. "On Sunday I went to see a customer and he bought a coffee and a cookie. It then turned into a few more people, and then a small gathering chatting with each other and buying things.

"Even when I left they stayed there and had that important interaction. It brings people and neighbours together. It doesn't need to be a long conversation but a smile and a meaningful chat is sometimes the highlight of people's day."

Supporting local is also at the heart of what Peter believes in. He said: ''The smaller independent shops invite a different experience. They are so much better because they are all about interacting and engaging with people. This alongside the quality of their product, dedication and passion to the craft makes a difference.

"You might pay a bit more for a product but, in turn, you are paying those people, and their families, bills.

"You gain a sense of warmth and a good feeling from supporting local businesses."

Where I used to work I always served an elderly gentleman. I still remember his order now. One Americano with semi-skimmed milk. He would get annoyed if we didn't have the right milk available. It was funny. During the lockdown, I lost contact with him.

"Then, three days ago a couple ordered from me. They said do you know George next door? He said he used to come to your old store. We went and knocked and he was there and so glad to see me. He's not got anyone else living with him.

"So, I gave him my card and we had a long chat. This is the why behind my business. We sell an experience and build stronger relationships in the process."

The coffee used is from Round Hill Roastery, a UK based independent, who focus on ethical and quality produce. We had a try and it was absolutely delicious.

Peter's cups are also compostable and he said: ''Today I was cycling past one of my customers and he happens to have a little nursery of plants. I've noticed that he used one of my cups as a plant pot. It's a wonderful idea to plant a seed in the cup and once it's established plant it in your garden. Such inspiration."

With coffee priced at 2.60 and 2.20 for cookies, it's also a steal.
