Penarth Under 5s seek a new home

After Albert Road Methodist Church Hall closed last July, the baby and toddler group, Penarth Under 5s, has been left homeless.

The group is desperate to continue, once restrictions allow as it has been running in Penarth for over 40 years but has been struggling to find a hall to reside in.

The very popular group is looking for a hall that could accommodate its requirement of storage for toys as well as a kitchen to make that all important tea and coffee for the parents, grandparents or carers.

In their search for a new home they have found that many halls are affiliated with a church therefore have their own religious children's groups.

Penarth Under 5s had hoped that the new hall at St Paul's Community Centre on Arcot Street may have been an option as the proposed management company originally seemed very keen to be a part of the community but so far this has not come to anything.

For over 40 years the group has provided a place for children in their early years to play and socialise as well as a chance for those looking after small children whether they be parents, grandparents or carers to meet with others for a cuppa and a chat.

Lizzie Rayner, one of the volunteers who runs the group said, "It would be such a shame to lose a group that has supported the community for so long often seeing two generations of the same family attend.

"Once restrictions are lifted we want to be ready to welcome all those looking after young children especially the new parents who we know this time has been especially hard on.

"Being able to socialise with other people with young children plays such a huge part in your mental health when you have just had a child.

"It would be very sad if the group were to have to close because we couldn't find a new residence for it, if anyone has any ideas please send us a message on Facebook."
