Penarth Station Sees Significant Rises in Passengers Annually

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has released data on passengers passing through stations throughout the UK. The figures show a large increase in station usage for Penarth.

In the period 2017/2018 Penarth station saw 626,950 users enter and exit the station. This figure has since risen to 739,030 over 2018/2019 period, which is a change of 17.9%.

It has also risen in the overall rankings of Welsh station usage from 14th to 13th most used.

It sits above Cogan (34th) and Dingle Road (70th), the two other stations operating in Penarth, that also saw more passengers entering and exiting their platforms over the year.

It is the second most used station after Barry Island (10th) in the Vale of Glamorgan, coming ahead of Barry (18th).

Statistics for 223 stations across Wales have been recorded.

Comparatively, the most used station in Wales, Cardiff Central, had 14,204,684 passengers enter and exit. The least passenger heavy station was Sugar Loaf which saw only 708 passengers over the year.

70 stations across wales saw a reduction in their station usage.
