Penarth Town Centre is set to receive three electronic bus information display units as part of wider grants from the Welsh Government for local transport.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has been awarded grants worth £823,843 from the Welsh Government in relation to the Local Transport Fund and the Local Transport Network Fund.

£180,000 of this will be used towards a scheme which will provide electronic information display units at 20 locations across the Vale of Glamorgan, including three in Penarth Town Centre.

The scheme description said: ''The current situation with regard to the provision of bus service information at bus stops within the Vale of Glamorgan is ad-hoc, paper-based information in varying styles, as it's left to the service providers to update their own information.

"Whilst there was once an informal agreement through Sewta between operators to provide comprehensive bus stop specific information, this agreement soon fell by the wayside following the Association's demise.

"In addition, there are currently no electronic bus stop information displays within the Vale of Glamorgan area, which in turn gives a pretty poor image of bus service provision and public transport in general.

The scheme will initially only show scheduled service information, as opposed to 'real-time', but they hope to enable the latter when it is financially viable to update the system.
