Residents in Penarth have responded to the Vale council's decision to rethink its plans on ending outdoor seating at the Esplanade.

The council's cabinet will review a report this week (Thursday, June 23) which includes plans for traffic management, public realm implications, and consultation and engagement on the future of Penarth Esplanade.

Businesses were given permission from the council to set up outdoor seating during the COVID-19 pandemic to help with trade and the current licence is due to expire on June 30.

An online petition set up by Jemma Angove earlier this year collected thousands of signatures in favour of keeping the outdoor seating

Physical petitions from traders at Casa De Margarita and Sundowners Champagne Bar also collected thousands of signatures.

Claire Best said on Facebook: "They should 100% stay, as there is a holiday feel and it would be such a shame if it should go."

Paula Chapman also commented: I think it should, it has brought more people to the esplanade as they are somewhere outside to eat and drink.

"We've been passed on many occasions and it's always busy down there now. It's brought a vibrancy to there."

Mark Badger added: "Yes. It works very well and gives Penarth seafront a wonderful seafront experience. It's not all about cars. There is still plenty of parking."
