Sgt. Johnson told Penarth Town Council in a meeting in late June that the police are currently recruiting police volunteers in Penarth for the first time as well as increasing the number of officers in the area.

It is hoped that the local community volunteers will be able to help with patrolling local areas, especially given the current climate with coronavirus and an increase in anti-social behaviour in the area.

Sgt. Johnson provided detail around some complaints that had been received regarding allegations of drug-use in Paget Terrace. This is an area that is being monitored with daily patrols.

In addition to this, the police will also have two new neighbourhood police officers who started in June and 3 new officers starting this month.

Cllrs. McCaffer and Murphy expressed their thanks to the police for "doing an amazing job in what must be very difficult circumstances currently".

Councillors and Officers noted that they have received lots of calls and emails from residents regarding anti-social behaviour in areas such as the athletic field and the Old Pens rugby ground.

Cllr. Yvonne Murphy acknowledged "the very tricky situation for police around issues of social distancing outside of takeaways and establishments selling alcohol, particularly as they have very limited powers to deal with this".
