Vodaphone has launched its 5G service in 37 towns across the UK and Penarth has been one of the areas picked for the companies big switch on.

5G will be at no extra cost to Vodaphone customers. They will give it to customers as standard on plans that are 5GB and above. That means 5G doesn't cost any extra and connects in exactly the same way as 4G.

5G will work at average speeds of 150-200Mbps, and peak speeds will reach 1Gbps. Which means you'll be able to download a full HD film in around 3 minutes (compared to over 15 minutes on 4G).

This is up to 10 times faster than 4G.

Where 5G will work at average speeds of 150-200Mbps, 4G works at average speeds of 23-35Mbps

Where 5G will reach peak speeds of 1Gbps, 4G works at a maximum speed of 150Mbps

5G is going to be a game-changer, opening up a new world of seamless opportunities.

It will work on larger channels to carry higher speeds. Get faster mobile speeds than you've ever experienced before - play multiplayer action games on the go, get real-time map information and download movies in seconds.

The greater network capacity means you can be confidently connected in a crowd with reliable data and call connections in busy places like train stations and football matches.

The new technologies used by the 5G network are designed to create less latency (lag).

You'll need a 5G ready plan and a 5G phone to connect to the Vodafone 5G network.

If you're using a 5G compatible phone in an area that doesn't have 5G coverage, your phone will automatically swap to 4G, 3G or 2G - depending on the signal that's available. Your 5G phone will then automatically reconnect to the 5G network once you're back in a 5G area.

Cardiff has had 5G rolled out by most of the major mobile networks and sees much greater strength than Penarth has available currently.
