A man from Penarth has been sentenced to six and a half years for sexual assault on a teenage girl.

David King, 60, committed the crime in 2005 when the girl was 17 years old. He put his hand down the girl's trousers and covered her mouth to stop her screaming, and she bit his hand to break free.

The abuse was only reported to the police in 2020.

Mr King was found guilty of the crime in April this year at Cardiff Crown Court and was remanded in custody.

He was sentenced at Merthyr Crown Court and will serve about half of his sentence in jail.

The remainder will be served in the community.
