A Makerspace project is due to be launched at Penarth Library in the next few weeks to bring library users together to share resources.

Funding from the Vale of Glamorgan Council means the library will be able to provide new equipment including Apple Mac computers and 3D printers and the latest digital software.

Penarth Library will also be hosting sessions for individuals, local businesses and community groups on subjects such as visual and sound design, 3D printing and laser cutting.

Cllr Lis Burnett, deputy leader and cabinet member for Education and Regeneration, said: "Penarth Library Makerspace will help us meet the changing needs of our communities by offering access to new technologies and promoting the importance and use of digital literacies across all age ranges.

"Vale of Glamorgan Libraries provide access to information and encourage the development of literacy, creativity, and wellbeing and this project will increase the community's access to resources, helping them to learn and develop digital and creative skills.

She continued: "The works at Penarth Library are provided with the help of Section 106 funding which comes to the council for local community use as a levy on building developments in Penarth.

"The Makerspace project is part of a UK Government initiative to help intermediate and advanced learners to develop their skills and creativity."
