Hannah Mills is guaranteed an Olympic medal and is just one race away from defending her sailing title.

Alongside teammate Eilidh McIntyre, the women's 470 champion from Dinas Powys, extended their lead on the final day of fleet racing.

Mills and McIntyre secured third place in the last of the heats, which leaves them 14 points ahead of Camille Lecointre and Aloise Retornaz of France.

Their Polish rivals Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Jolanta Ogar slipped back to third in the overall standings, having led the competition in the early stages.

The final race will take place at the Enoshima yacht harbour tomorrow.

If Mills defends her title, she will become the most successful British female sailor in Olympic history.

At Rio 2016, Mills took gold with Saskia Clark, and before that in London she earned silver.

Team GB's closest competition, the French duo, took the bronze in Brazil in 2016.

The medal race is due to start on Wednesday morning at 7.33am BST.
