Penarth Esplanade has dealt with a variety of issues in keeping businesses open along the iconic seafront but it looks like a number of new ventures will be heading that way in 2020.

Nub News previously reported on the takeover of the Crazy Cafe which had been left unoccupied for an extended period due to issues with previous tenants.

Huw Pickford, who had managed the Galley restaurant at Penarth Yacht Club, and his wife Jeanne were going to take on the cafe but have since decided to move their business into the Beach House Hotel instead.

He cited a 'much better opportunity' as the reason behind the move from the Crazy Cafe to the Beach House property.

They are now in the new property and are renovating the bar and restaraunt, which is set to open at the end of January, and the hotel which will open a couple of weeks later.

Nub News contacted Richard Hayward Properties to find out what was going on with the vacant premises on the front.

Mr. Hayward said: ''We have a number of interested parties wishing to take over the Crazy Café and several may make a very good job of running it but we are being very cautious due to the problems with the last Tenant.

''In the meanwhile we are now opening the building next door with a very good operator who has moved in and work is underway to convert to a Fish and Chip shop with 30 covers so it will take both eat in and take away offers.

''It is hoped this will be operating during February.

''I hope the café will also be operating by Middle of February as well.

''Meanwhile James Sommerin has had a very busy christmas period and goes from strength to strength. His current food offering is exceptional and continues to improve.''

Residents have expressed concerns over the problems facing the Esplanade including speculation over rent rates and the lack of public transport visiting the area.

The Crazy Cafe, Fig Tree and the Beach House were all closed whilst Decks and Nicolas on the pier were shut for different reasons.

Nub News will keep residents updated with any information that comes through.
