Penarth Dawnstalkers, a sunrise swimming group, are fundraising for the Samaritans by completing a 5-kilometre walk this weekend.
Setting off from the Cliff Top car park at 5.30am on Saturday [18 September], the group of ten walked along the cliff top, to Lavernock and back round to the seafront, before finishing with a dip in the sea.
Lizzy Wood, a member of the Dawnstalkers, said the walk, which was part of a nationwide event, was "really special".
"We all feel that the work that Samaritans do is super important, and we all know how hard it is to manage your mental health. So, raising money and doing the walk felt really special," she said.
"I think for so many of us Dawnstalkers, myself included, you can become so isolated due to COVID. "We're all working from home now, so you can go your whole day without talking to another person face to face. "The group makes sure everybody has a nice, friendly, open place to just chat and talk and get to know people." Lizzy told Nub News that the Dawnstalkers group has been a huge part of her life in recent months. "I don't know where I would have been had I not had this group at this time," she said. "I love how eclectic it is, and how friendly everyone is. It's all ages, all different backgrounds, and we all just come together. "We're all very honest with how we're feeling as well. That 'are you okay?' question is actually asked in a really meaningful way and gets answered in a meaningful way." The Dawnstalkers have raised £530 so far; click here to view the JustGiving page.
