Penarth Town Council has proposed to increase its share of the council tax bill by approximately 6.5% on the 2019/2020 figure.

Every year Penarth Town Council undergoes budgeting to decide how much money they require to provide, manage and run their services and facilities.

This year PTC has proposed to increase its share of the council tax bill by £4.76, around 40p a month (based on a Band-D property).

The amount of incomes that is estimated is deducted from the amount of projected expenditure. This sum is known as the 'Town Council Precept' which is the additional amount added to the resident's council tax bills.

For 2020/21, the Town Council has estimated its precept at £912,585 which equates to £78.69 annually (Based on a Band-D property).

This has now been formally requested of the Vale of Glamorgan.

How is this spent:

• Central Services - 38% - Includes items like admins, elections, computer licences and printing

• Council Venues - 32% - Paget Rooms, Turner House, West House, venue maintenance and PPE

• Annual events - 12% - Summer Festival, Christmas Lights, Civic Celebrations and Mayorality
  • Open Spaces - 12% - Includes tourism, open spaces, leisure gardens and the cemetery
  • Public Works Loan - 2% - Repayments on capital projects development

• 5 Year Programme - 4% - Marketing, Penarth Youth Action and environmental plans.

This information comes alongside the announcement of a 4.9% increase on Vale Council Tax levels as well as the likely increase in the Police Precept contribution (between 5% and 8%) that Nub News reported on earlier this week.

Overall, a Band-D property in Penarth is looking at a rise of around £85.97, if all increases are agreed by Cabinet and Council in February.
