The Vale of Glamorgan Council has commissioned a local artist to transform Cogan Bridge at Penarth Marina.

Cogan Bridge is a gateway to existing active travel routes at Penarth Marina and the council claims the bridge has recently been subject to graffitiing, which is why the council has identified it as a 'landmark for improvement'.

During the initial stages of the project, the designer held a workshop to collaborate with residents to develop a colourful, inviting design that resonates with the community.

The final designs explore what Cogan means to the community and the chosen shapes and colours were inspired by local landmarks and the town's history.

Cllr Peter King, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport said: "It's great to see a collaborative project that will not only visually improve the local area but will also provide a story of local history.

"The scheme will transform the bridges into vibrant, inviting landmarks, hopefully encouraging residents to make use of the walkways and access active travel routes.

"Encouraging active travel is crucial in achieving our Project Zero goals, the Council's commitment to tackle climate change."

Using Welsh Government funding, the council hopes to enhance and improve active travel routes around the Vale with murals, play features and activity trails.

A date for when work will begin is yet to be announced.
