On Saturday 19 October Penarth Community Choir held a beautiful intimate concert at St Augustine's Church in memory of former choir member Steve Lavender.

The event was hosted by Friends of St Augustine's and it was an honour and a joy for the choir to perform for Steve's family and friends.

Led by experienced musical director Janet Holloway, the choir raised the roof with jazz numbers 'I've Got Rhythm' and 'Embraceable You' and stirred everyone's souls with music from 'Les Miserables' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'.

'The Seal Lullaby' by Eric Whitacre and 'Harbour' by Anna Tabbush sounded especially beautiful in the Church's acoustic.

Steve was a fan of jazz so choir accompanist Emily Gait-Scaglioni also played a beautiful rendition of 'Autumn Leaves'.

The choir are looking forward now to Christmas and can next be heard at:

2pm Sat 7th December: St Augustines Christmas Tree Festival

7pm Monday 9th December: Choir Christmas Concert Tabernacle Baptist Church, Penarth

Do you have a tenor, bass or baritone voice? The choir are also looking for some more singers to join their fantastic men's section.

Rehearsals take place at St Paul's Community Centre, Arcot St, Penarth on Monday evenings 7-9 pm (with a break for a cuppa and cake at 8pm)

There is a wide range of music from films & musicals, popular music and jazz to folk, classical and sacred. Music scores are used but there are practice tracks for everything.

Your first rehearsal is FREE!

Simply turn up or contact Sue Orpin at [email protected] for more details.
