A sponsored bike ride and cake sale at Cogan Nursery School on March 28 raised £727 for the crisis in Ukraine.

The children also made sunflowers and a Ukraine flag which were tied around the nursery with blue and yellow ribbon.

Katy Smart, 36, a teacher at Cogan Nursery School who lives in Penarth, told Nub News: "For a nursery school with 46 pupils, it's an impressive amount to raise. The children brought in their scooters or bikes for the sponsored ride and the staff did a lap around Cogan Rec [Cogan Recreation Ground].

"We all wore blue and yellow and the parents' brought in cakes for the cake sale. The sponsored ride was just for the children and staff and the local community was able to attend the cake sale in the afternoon.

"It's great that the whole community pulled together especially during these difficult times with financial worries and I'm really proud of the children!"

The school is currently thinking of ideas to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June with another sponsored event.
